RETIN-A

Image via

I'm a girl on a mission.  Over the past few years, I have heard nothing but positives from friends using Retin-A products.  There's so many articles out there about how simply using Retin-A products can improve skin texture, fade dark spots, shrink pores, and help to retain collagen.  One product that can do all of that?? I'm in.  Now the hard part -- trying to decide which product to splurge on.  I know it's going to be a long road before I find the perfect one -- but I'm thinking of starting with either this one or this one -- both from Sephora.

If you have any suggested products or tips -- shoot them my way!!

  1. Hey, Kelly! I've used prescription strength Retin-A (or a retinol) for about 10 years. It has made all the difference in the world!! I've been trying to talk Courtney into using it for many years. Since she refuses to heed my advice (hehe!) I'll pass on my advice to you! Things you should know:
    1. While the stuff sold in stores may be good, nothing beats the Rx strength stuff. And, if you have Rx insurance, it usually ends up being a lot cheaper than stuff you buy in stores (stuff that is not as potent anyway). Dr. Blackledge at Blackledge Face Center writes mine for me but any dermatologist and/or plastic surgeon can write it for you.
    2. You will peel like crazy at first and will be quite irritated until your skin gets used to it. So if you have an event coming up or need to look pretty for something, I would suggest waiting until after the event to start using it.
    3. You CANNOT let your face get in the sun at all while using a retinol product. So if you are planning a beach trip quit using it about 5 days before and don't start back using it until about 5 days after you've gotten home.
    4. True Retin-A was too strong for my skin so now I use Tazorac gel 0.10%. Tazorac is actually for eczema, but it has been shown to be extremely beneficial as an anti-aging product.
Let me know if you have any other questions! Love your blog!! P.S. - I sent your blog post about the house in Flora to Bryan and told him he had plenty of time to get it for me by Christmas. LOL!
